Magma Cubes are an uncommon mob found in the game. They have three sizes, large, medium and small.
Spawning[]
Magma Cubes naturally spawn in the Nether dimension, anywhere in the world, including on lava. When they spawn, they always are in their large variant. When killed, Magma Cubes break down into maximum of four medium variants, just like Slimes. When they are killed again, they break down into maximum four small variants for each medium variant, meaning that the maximum number of small variants spawned from a large variant is 16.
They may also be spawned using their Spawner or Spawn Eggs, and follow the same rule.
Behaviour[]
Magma Cubes wander around aimlessly, and "float" in random directions. They do not burn in lava, but are unable to go above blocks despite appearing to float.
In the game, Magma Cubes are actually Neutral, and do not attack the player unless provoked. However, once it is hit, it turns Hostile and deals some damage. If a large magma cube is killed, its smaller variants spawned will also be Hostile.
After the small variants have been killed, they no longer break down into any smaller variants. In other words, they must be defeated three times.
Loot[]
When the Magma Cube dies, only the large variant drops Experience, but all variants have a chance to drop
- Magma cream, amount increased with Looting
- Its Head, chance increased with Looting
