A villager is a passive mob that was added to the game October 12, 2020. Villagers have trade menus that open when a player right clicks them. These trades consist of random items from the creative inventory while excluding currency items, and have a random number of items and emeralds, allowing chances for great deals and rare items, like spawn eggs and other items that are extremely rare in the game. Villagers can collect items that are dropped by players and will do so with their own head(item), hinting at cannibalistic tendencies. When killed, Villagers drop all items they collected along with the chance of a head. As of update 0.1004.171, there were trade-o-mats in the library of villages, leading players to discover that they could dupe items using hoppers, since villages are structures made in creative and trade-o-mats in creative mode have infinite trades. Luckily, this was removed later.

Trivia[]

  • Sometimes, villagers may trade the same item twice, usually selling it for different amounts of emeralds.
  • Lottery tickets used to be part of their trades, but it was removed.
  • There was a type of villagers before the 0.921.156 update, which traded 2 emeralds for half a stack of rubies. This ruby exploit was removed.
